Log A Load For Kids won an Award of
Excellence this July (1997) in the Associations Advance America Awards program, a national
competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives. The American
Pulpwood Association, a Log A Load national sponsor, submitted the nomination on behalf of
the thousands of donors and volunteer organizers in 24 states who collectively raised $2
million for 68 local Children's Miracle Network hospitals during this year's campaign. Jan Seaman, who co-chairs the National Log A Load For Kids Program, said, "Log A Load For Kids has made a big difference in the lives of critically ill, injured and abused children, their families, and in the lives of the loggers who have worked so hard for it. We really appreciate this national recognition." Through Log A Load For Kids, loggers and wood supply businesses donate the value of a load of logs to a local non-profit children's hospital to be used in treating critically ill and injured children. Log A Load participants also-organize special fundraising events to supplement donations to hospitals. Log A Load For Kids spotlights the community service involvement and professionalism of America's loggers. Since its inception in South Carolina in 1988, Log A Load has raised over $5.7 million, benefiting America's critically ill and injured children. One hundred percent of Log A Load donations go directly for worthy projects such as purchasing hospital equipment, building hospital rooms, or helping pay hospital bills for needy families. Now in its seventh year, the Associations Advance America Avards recognize significant contributions to society by associations in areas such as public education, economic development, innovation, knowledge creation, standards, and community service. The American Pulpwood Association (600 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 350, Rockville, Maryland 20852), a national sponsor of the Log A Load For Kids program, is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill. APA represents wood consumers, independent logging contractors, and wood dealers, as well as businesses providing products and services to the pulpwood industry. |
